Security Officer Positions are Open at Groote Schuur Hospital

 

The Department of Health and Wellness invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the positions of Security Officers at Groote Schuur Hospital, Observatory. The role offers a salary of R163,680 per annum and requires registration as a Security Officer Grade C or higher with the Security Board in terms of the Security Industry Regulatory Authority Act (PSIRA). Candidates must hold a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) or Grade 9 qualification and possess appropriate experience in security.

 



 

Successful applicants will be responsible for controlling access and egress, patrolling hospital buildings, parking areas, and perimeter fencing. Duties also include investigating security incidents, writing detailed reports, controlling hospital keys, and supervising outsourced security personnel. The position demands physical fitness, good communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure both independently and as part of a team, alongside adherence to security regulations and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Educational Qualification: General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) / Grade 9 (Std 7).
Registration with the Professions Council: Candidates must be registered as a Security Officer Grade C or higher with the Security Board in terms of the Security Industry Regulatory Authority Act (PSIRA).
Experience: Appropriate experience in security operations.

Inherent Requirements of the Job:

Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Perform standby duties as required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsible and diligent with the ability to work under pressure.
Capability to work both in a team and independently, with flexibility to change shifts when required.
Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.

DUTIES

Ensure access and egress control for the hospital premises.
Conduct patrolling of buildings, parking areas, and perimeter fencing.
Investigate crimes, incidents, and security breaches, including taking and writing statements and reports.
Control and manage all hospital keys.
Supervise outsourced security officers.
