CORE PURPOSE OF JOB:
To provide general administrative and secretarial support to academic staff in the Department of Accounting Sciences.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Provide word processing services (e.g. typing of correspondence, editing formatting of lecture material, power point presentations, assignments/ solutions, test and exam papers and solutions).
- Provide effective general office and other general administrative support to the Department of Accounting Sciences.
- Provide effective academic administration functions for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered in the Department.
- Managing and accurately capturing marks on Moodle, an Excel database and on the ITS system.
- Provide financial administration functions.
- Manage travel and accommodation arrangements (local and international).
- Manage internal and external public relations and liaison.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Understanding of the processes and practices in an academic environment.
- Sound knowledge of ITS or equivalent software package.
- Appropriate knowledge and experience in general office and academic administration.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Outstanding organisational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to copy type quickly and accurately, including the typing of figures (e.g. financial statements).
- Advanced computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Moodle.
- Proven ability to use own initiative, work independently and under pressure.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Adhere to the values of Nelson Mandela University.
REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must possess Matric (Grade 12) plus at least three years relevant work-related experience in which competency has been gained, preferably in a tertiary educational environment.
