Position Details

Job Purpose

The Cleaner will be responsible for maintaining hygiene and cleanliness standards within the refinery premises. Duties include general cleaning, managing cleaning equipment, ensuring health and safety compliance, and preparing meeting rooms when required.

The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this Cleaner vacancy in Durban, applicants must have:

Matric (NQF Level 4) or equivalent qualification

1–2 years’ experience as a Cleaner or in a similar role

Required Skills and Competencies

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

Ability to understand and follow instructions

Strong time management skills

Physical stamina for standing, bending, lifting, and manual labour

Ability to complete tasks thoroughly and efficiently

Key Duties and Responsibilities

General Cleaning

Sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and sanitizing surfaces

Cleaning bathrooms, offices, kitchens, and common areas

Emptying trash bins and disposing of waste properly

Washing windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces

Operating and maintaining cleaning equipment

Performing ad-hoc duties as required

Replenishing Cleaning Materials

Replacing toilet paper, hand soap, hand towels, and hygiene supplies

Managing cleaning stock allocated to work areas

Reporting low stock to the Supervisor

Meeting Room Preparation

Preparing meeting rooms according to departmental needs

Ensuring rooms are cleaned daily

Replenishing tea, coffee, sugar, milk, and hot water

Health and Safety

Complying with health and safety regulations

Using cleaning chemicals safely

Reporting building defects that may affect safety or security

Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA, and proof must be attached to the application.
