Job Description
Responsible for activities associated with general work around the DAF unit area, feather area, sump area and the entire abattoir in accordance with laid down instructions/ policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 Equivalent.
- Able to work in warm abattoir areas with pungent smell (feathers, blood).
- The applicant should be in good physical condition as the position involves physical work and standing for extended periods.
- A willingness to work overtime, incl. shifts, on weekends and holidays when required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleaning the DAF unit, feather press, sump pit and feather area.
- Ensuring that the equipment is washed, and damaged or broken machines and equipment are reported to the shift controllers.
- Assist in inspecting broken shackles & yokes of the airline chiller during start-ups.
- Ensuring that the machines are working the entire production time and reporting all failures in time as and when they occur.
- Assisting in replacing the plucker fingers during weekend maintenance work.
- Ensuring that all valves, scrapers, screen, and pumps are in a good working condition.
- Ensuring that the sump pit room is clean and ready for start-up.
- Ensuring that the feather area is clean and ready.
- Ensuring that the water sieve unit is clean and ready for start-up.
Skills Required
- Understanding of production procedures.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures (PPE).
- Team player.
- Able to work under pressure.
