The Mr Price Foundation has introduced the JumpStart Retail Essentials Programme (REP) — a structured retail training programme designed to help young South Africans gain practical workplace skills and real retail experience. This opportunity is ideal for unemployed youth who want to enter the retail industry and build a strong foundation for future employment.
The Retail Essentials Programme is a six-month blended learning course that combines classroom learning with practical workplace exposure. Participants receive training in core retail functions while developing important personal and professional skills required to succeed in a retail environment.
What the Programme Offers
The REP programme focuses on preparing young people for specialised retail roles by providing foundational knowledge and hands-on experience. Training modules cover areas such as customer experience, merchandising, marketing, and understanding store operations.
Participants also begin with a dedicated life-skills component aimed at helping them build confidence and develop a strong work ethic. Topics may include communication, time management, emotional development, goal setting, conflict resolution, and job preparation skills — all designed to help youth transition successfully into the workplace.
Through the programme, interns gain:
Valuable workplace and life skills
Credible retail work experience
Certificates to strengthen their CVs
Improved employability and workplace readiness
While job placement is not guaranteed after completion, the Mr Price Foundation works closely with employer partners to help create opportunities for participants and connect them with potential employers in the retail sector.
