The City of Cape Town is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for its Training and Development Student Opportunities. These programmes are designed to support students and graduates at different education levels by providing structured workplace exposure, skills transfer, and practical learning aligned to formal qualifications.
These opportunities are offered on a fixed-term contract basis and cater for learners ranging from Grade 10 level to postgraduate qualifications.
Available Programmes
1. Skills Programme (Fixed Term Contract)
This programme provides practical exposure and structured experiential learning for candidates who want to gain basic workplace skills.
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 10 / 11
National Senior Certificate (Grade 12 / Matric)
N1 – N5
NQF Level 2 – 4
The aim of this programme is to prepare participants for the world of work by offering hands-on experience in a structured environment.
2. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) / In-Service Training
This programme is intended for students who are required to complete workplace learning in order to obtain a formal qualification.
Requirements:
National Certificate N6 (WIL / In-service training)
Letter from a Higher Learning Institution confirming the requirement for WIL
Academic transcript
The programme integrates academic learning with practical workplace application and is formally recognised as In-Service Training.
3. National N Diploma / Diploma Internship
The City offers internship programmes to students who have completed their qualifications at:
FET / TVET Colleges
Accredited higher learning institutions
These internships are full-time and focus on skills transfer to prepare participants for employment.
4. Graduate Internship Programme (GIP) – Fixed Term Contract
This programme targets graduates from registered universities or universities of technology.
Eligible Qualifications Include:
3-year Diploma / National Diploma
Advanced Diploma / B-Tech
Degree
Honours
Masters
PhD
The Graduate Internship Programme provides structured professional exposure to help graduates transition into the labour market.
