Purpose of the Job

Main Purpose of the Job:

The Baker is responsible for producing a variety of fresh baked goods while maintaining the highest standards of quality, taste, and presentation. This role is essential in ensuring customer satisfaction and driving sales through delicious offerings at Checkers Rock Cottage.

 

 

Job Objectives:

• Prepare and bake a wide range of products, including bread, pastries, cakes and cookies, according to Checkers’ recipes
• Ensure all baked goods are of superior quality and consistency
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the baking area in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with the team to meet sales goals and manage inventory effectively.
• Experiment with new recipes and products to enhance the bakery offerings.

 

 

Task Information:

• Baking – Prepare dough and batters, bake items in accordance with the daily production schedule and customer demand.
• Ingredient Management – Measure, mix and prepare ingredients while ensuring stock is maintained and replenished.
• Quality Control – Regularly check the quality and freshness of baked goods.
• Cleaning – Uphold strict cleanliness and sanitation standards in the baking area, including equipment and utensils.
• Customer Interaction – Occasionally assist customer by answering questions and providing information about baked goods.
• Collaboration – Work closely with other team members to maintain an efficient production workflow and contribute to a positive work environment.

 

 

Qualifications   

Minimum Qualifications:

• Grade 12
• Formal training in baking or pastry is a plus but not mandatory

 

Experience:

• Previous experience as a Baker in a retail bakery, café or restaurant is essential
• Experience in high-volume baking is an advantage

 

 

Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of baking techniques, pastry production, and use of baking equipment is essential
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices in a kitchen environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for baking
• Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently.
• Good time management skills to meet production schedules
• Excellent communication skills
